Lumps people! I found a verse that talks about Lumps of Clay!

I guess it's way too late.

Check out Jeremiah 18:6
"Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel."

Oh well, I hope some Lumps Alumni read this.

Laters,

E.

following God's opening

It’s now official. I’ll be the design intern at the United Nations in NY for the summer. Probably ~ May 4th-ish thru September 12 ish. It’s been incredible seeing how God really precisely opened up this opportunity for me.

Officially I’ll be there to design a website for a UN conference (which is pretty exciting and all), but I’ve been feeling that God’s opening this opportunity for me to be there to start connecting to creative Christians for something kingdom wise down the line. Catching a sense of that vision from God for me, and a potential way that I can serve him with my passions and talents, is what really drove me to pursue this opportunity and apply. It’s something that I’ll be trying to pursue with courage and gratitude to God. It’ll be an interesting ride. I already foresee some other interesting things that are coincidentally happening this week which God may use to pave the way for my time there this summer.

I’ll try and get together later on more detailed sharing for the specific ways I see God in all of this and following him. The next steps are to really start connecting to NY ppl in preparation for my time there and also figure out my housing situation (my apartment spot here and a living spot in NY) and my car. I’m excited to see how God will continue to unfold his plans.

the travel passport of gratitude

something i was struck by at mosaic last week was that if we have gratitude to god, we're travel-ready. this comes from the biblical context of looking at the israelites trudging through the desert and longing for the comforts and food that they had in egypt under slavery. they were being extremely ungrateful to god despite his having carried them thru the red sea just 3 days earlier. if they were grateful, they would have willingly followed him. that attitude of gratefulness is sharply contrasted with being settled and not willing to budge or longing for the days of yesterday. a mature faith is grateful. it's liquid and transportable. it's travel-ready.

lately i've started to catch wind of the possibility that god might want me to be travel ready in my future. perhaps even this summer. so i'm going to faithfully pursue an opportunity which might bring me to new york for the summer. it would be a big pain (that i don't want to deal with), to figure out my housing situation both here and there and that alone would prevent me from going and continue on in the path i have going on here...but in the grander scheme of things, it's really so minor and simply a luxury.

if i felt that god was possibly calling me to do something, i should totally be willing to look and see...even if it meant giving up my apartment or having to find a new roommate. stuff so minor in the grand scheme of things. by the timing of things happening around me, i'm starting to look and see how god might be shaping my future. more on that interesting stuff later. stay tuned.

the ongoing life of lumps logs

as i've been learning things in my walk, i thought i'd share them here. stuff learned at church. in the word. in the effort to live faithfully. it's not really fitting with the audience and purpose of my other blog, but more so here. hopefully stuff shared here can be an encouragement in the paths we walk, however far apart we may be. this isn't so much a collection to record what i'm learning for myself, but more of an access point to share and encourage others.

and you observant ones may notice that i installed comments on this blog. hopefully this blog can be a communal sharing and contact point for us to meet on our spiritual journeys. (if you wanna have access to posting here, just holler.)

james forwarded me these articles by tim keller, and they're pretty good.

minstering to post-everythings
~ he really nails the analysis of our generation. my church mosaic really embraces this idea.

preaching amid pluralism
~ good stuff breaking down pluralism and why we need to minister to the city

preaching hell in a tolerant age
~ communicating the idea of hell to the broad-minded

good stuff.

the weight of small things

some profound thoughts from uprising...

* When we think of human talent or gifting, we tend to put it in a category of value added. If a person does not achieve his or her God-given potential, we might consider it a tragedy, but we would never think of it as wickedness. Our pursuit for holiness has historically been all about the elimination of sin.

* We have seen with clarity that a life lived against God is wicked, but have we ever seen as clearly that to live a life beneath our divine capacity is equally dishonoring to God? To not have that opportunity is tragic. To relinquish it, to neglect it, to reject it is to wicked in tea sight of God.

* Sin is what happens when we have too much time on our hands and too little purpose in our lives.

*...Our talents are not to be the focus of our lives. Serving others through our gifts and talents that we have is far more important...Even when our work is not focused on our talents, the effect can be both positive and substantial.

*...It's not about making your faith bigger. All you need is mustard seed-sized faith.

Lumps now Sparks?

Since Lumps is now defunct and the new small groups are part of Sparks, does that make participants "Sparkers" instead of "Lumpers"?
